Celebrating Hanukkah 2008
Here are the pictures of our Hanukkah celebration that I promised to show. What a great honor to share the story of the Maccabees with my grandchildren.
Yeshua (Jesus) Himself celebrated Hanukkah. And it was at Jerusalem the feast of Dedication and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch (John 10:22).
I love how God has painted pictures of Jesus in the laws and customs of Israel's history. Hanukkah simple means dedication. The Jews rededicated the Temple to the Lord during the Macabees' revolt. There was enough oil to last only one night, but God miraculously caused the Temple menorah to burn for eight days. A great mircle happened.
We are the Temple of the Lord. Every day we need to Hanukkah our Temple of the Lord.
On our own, we could never have enough oil to last, but because of Jesus, we can say, "A great miracle happened here!" The oil in scripture is symbolic of the Holy Spirit. We need His oil in our lives to light the way. He leads us in truth and righteousness.
