"The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to ... bind up the brokenhearted... (Isaiah 61:1)."
Shevar is the Hebrew word used here for broken. It means to wreck, smash, break into pieces. Jesus, Himself, read these words in the synagogue at Nazareth. Then He added, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears (Luke 4:21)." Jesus, the great healer of the broken-hearted, waits to touch us with His love and kindness. Just one touch from Him and all the brokeness of sin and shame have to vanish. He gives us beauty for ashes. We are no longer clothed in filthy rags, but we wear garments of praise. Thank you Lord. Those words fitly spoken so many years ago, ring in our ears and hearts today. He that hath an ear, let him hear...
